Rui is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, developmental and attachment trauma in teens and adults. Rui holds certifications both in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment, she is also trained in Attachment-Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Relational Life Therapy for couples. Rui's approach is holistic (mind-body-spirit), relational, non-violent, mindfulness-based, attachment-based, and Interpersonal Neurobiology based.

Her innate curiosity and determination led her to study Psychology in the U.S. Rui holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from California Lutheran University. Since then, along with founding her own private practice, The Wholistic Connection, Rui also worked with Dr. Tina Bryson's team at The Center for Connection in Pasadena as well as AMDA College & Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Hollywood. Rui also has worked with Strength United, Pacific Clinics, Pacific Asian Counseling Services, and most recently the intensive outpatient program at Community West.

Rui is a mother to a 28-weeker preemie baby who had special needs, so she understands the emotional up-and-downs of being a parent. She utilized her professional knowledge and applied trauma-informed care to her baby while she was undergoing multiple surgeries. But the key mental element that really got her through was the practice of staying present.
